A staggering 70 million old, unused mobile phones are believed to be stuffed away at the bottom of drawers in the UK alone. While more people are becoming aware of mobile phone recycling not enough of us are actually doing it. Figures suggest over two-thirds of us have at least one unused mobile, this just isn't good enough and it's time we started recycling those old handsets. With most of us upgrading our mobiles at least once every 18 months a huge number of handsets are becoming obsolete every year and most of us simply bury them away around the home where they are of no use to anyone. Worse still some mobiles are thrown away with normal household waste, this isn't just wasteful but potentially harmful to the environment. Not only do many old mobile phones contain a number toxic and environmentally damaging chemicals but thanks to a ban on binning batteries chucking your old mobile in the dustbin could mean you're actually breaking the law. Many materials in old mobiles can actually be reused in the manufacture of new electronics and so recycling doesn't just reduce pollution, it provides the raw materials needed to produce new phones too. There are now a number of companies who will recycle your old mobiles phone and nearly all of them offer the additional benefit of actually paying to take old handsets from you. Most recycling companies will even send you a pre-paid envelope to send them your old mobile phone in. All too often recycling can be a real nuisance, so it's refreshing to see that mobile recycling is so painless even without the added financial benefit. While recycling should be motivated by a desire to protect the environment and reduce waste, since you're getting paid to do it you may as well get the best deal you can. That is why mobile phone recycling comparison site Compare and Recycle take the prices offered by all the top UK mobile phone recyclers and find you the best deal. They'll give you all the information you need too, such as who offers free postage and which payment methods are available from each recycler. Recycling an old mobile phone has never been easier so stop making excuses and start recycling those old mobiles! |
